Structural and Factual Evaluation

SAFE Audit℠

The review checks a document's figures, tables, and claims against each other. It does not check them against outside data.

A structured, multi-pass credibility review of a published or pre-publication document. It tests whether the document supports its conclusions with its own evidence.

What it Is

A credibility review that tests a document against its own evidence

SAFE Audit℠ identifies internal inconsistencies, arithmetic errors, and unsupported claims. It tests whether a document supports its conclusions with its own evidence.

What the review typically finds
Claims that don’t match table figures

A number stated in the text differs from the same figure in the document’s own table.

Statements that contradict each other

One part of the document says something another part rules out.

Totals that don’t add up

For example, square footage listed for individual buildings that does not sum to the building totals the document states.

The review does ...
  • Identify internal inconsistencies
  • Identify arithmetic errors
  • Identify unsupported claims
  • Test whether the conclusions rest on the document’s own evidence
The review does not ...
  • Judge the merits of the document’s position
  • Predict outcomes
  • Draft your material
  • Decide your positions

Findings describe what the document shows, never the author.

What You Receive

Each finding shows where it is, how serious it is, and what fixing it costs

Interactive dashboard

Findings register

Each finding shows its severity, its location in the document, a suggested fix, and the relative cost of that fix. Filter findings by severity or fix cost, and search them by full text.

Argument map

The document’s claims, sources, and reasoning. It shows which claims hold up the conclusion and flags claims with no source.

Each finding in the register shows

Severity: How serious the finding is

Location: Where it appears in the document

Suggested fix: A proposed correction to the document

Relative fix cost: The cost of the fix, relative to the others

Hand-checked: Whether the finding was checked by hand

Critical findings are checked by hand before delivery

Every critical finding is checked by hand against the document before delivery. Each finding shows whether it was hand-checked, so you can see which ones were.

Schedule

The schedule is confirmed at scoping

Standard and expedited schedules are available. The schedule is confirmed at scoping and depends on the document’s length and on other documents already in review.

Long documents: may be reviewed on an agreed extract. Findings then speak only to the pages reviewed.

Several documents: reviews covering several documents are scoped individually.

How It Starts

A fixed fee per document, quoted after a scoping call

The fee is set by the document’s length and schedule, not by the type of organization.

Step 1

Scoping call

We confirm the document, its length, and the schedule.

Step 2

Fixed-fee quote

One fee per document, set by its length and schedule.

Step 3

Review and delivery

You receive the findings register and the key findings summary, with the argument map on request.

For more than one document

Have more than one document to review? Commit to two reviews and the first is at no charge, up to a set length, for a document that will be published and that we may name as reviewed. Terms are agreed at scoping.
